Onboard Training

Onboard training is often requested by our clients as they know that they can benefit from dynamic, fluid and practical medical training delivered by our seagoing medical professionals who have been through the worst case scenarios and can utilise their experiences for the benefits of the crew. Optimal performance in high-stakes situations requires the crew to commit to their training and correct errors while they are in low-stakes learning situations. To achieve this, we base the training around experiential learning with limited but necessary theoretical work to underpin and develop practical skills and understanding. Tempo and skill requirements are increased as competence develops.

We get it wrong in training, so we get it right come the day.

Sample scenarios could be:

  • Catastrophic bleeds after a line snaps under tension on the mooring deck.

  • 25-year-old crew member was found collapsed in the tender garage, with an unknown cause with subsequent medical evacuation to the main deck to handover to ambulance crew ashore.

  • Medical cardiac arrest of a 70 year old guest on the sundeck with a return of spontaneous circulation and subsequent care whilst awaiting medical evacuation.

  • 24 year old has fallen down the stairs and suffered multiple injuries. Subsequent rescue by helicopter winch from upper deck.

  • A crew member reports feeling unwell. A patient assessment and simulated call to shoreside medical services allows you to treat them successfully onboard.
